The 100,000 Homes Campaign is a grassroots effort to find and place the most vulnerable, long-term homeless individuals into 100,000 homes across the country by July 2013. Led at the national level by New-York-based Common Ground, the campaign has successfully engaged dozens of cities across the country. In Philadelphia, we have an initial commitment to house 50 especially vulnerable homeless individuals in the first six months of our efforts.
As part of the 100,000 Homes Campaign and in partnership with the City of Philadelphia, the Sheller Foundation, Kirkbride Center, Project H.O.M.E., Horizon House, Bethesda Project, Pathways to Housing Philadelphia, United Way of SEPA, the Mental Health Association of SEPA, and Broad Street Ministry, Philadelphians from all walks of life will engage in a week-long effort to identify and help persons who are homeless obtain permanent housing.
The goal of Philadelphia's Outreach Week (May 16-20) is to create a by-name registry of people living on our streets and shelters, so we can prioritize those who have been out there the longest and who are the most vulnerable. What we learn together during this week will help us create and implement a long-term strategy to reduce chronic homelessness in Philadelphia.
Please join us! The campaign is recruiting dedicated volunteers to work in teams, with an experienced team leader, to canvass Philadelphia's streets and shelters to survey the city’s most vulnerable homeless individuals and families. To ensure the most accurate count possible, we will survey individuals during the early morning hours for three consecutive days. Click the Volunteer (or donate) button above to join our team. At the conclusion of Outreach Week, on May 20, the survey findings -- the result of all of those hours of volunteers administering surveys -- will be presented to the community by the Mayor and other leaders.
